February — Pew Pew Crew Drills
February — Month 2
Pick pistol, rifle, shotgun, or all three — whatever fits the session.
Pistol — Trigger Control & Accuracy
Setup: One target at 3–5 yards. "Dot Torture" is a printable target with several small numbered dot circles on it, each requiring a different type of shot (slow fire, from the holster, one-handed, etc). You can print one or draw your own dots on cardboard.
Beginner
Only run the first 5 dot strings, no time limit. Focus on hitting each dot cleanly. 5 rounds per string, 5 strings = 25 rounds.
Intermediate
Run the full 10-string Dot Torture course with its written time limits per string. 5 rounds per string, 10 strings = 50 rounds.
Advanced
Instead of Dot Torture, run a "Bill Drill": draw and fire 6 rounds as fast as you can while keeping every hit inside the center-mass box, within a 2.0 second par time. 6 rounds per rep, 5 reps = 30 rounds.
Checklist
- Eye protection (one per shooter)
- Ear protection (one per shooter)
- 1 Dot Torture target sheet (printed or hand-marked)
- Tape to mark center-mass box (Advanced Bill Drill target)
- 1 target/steel plate for advanced Bill Drill
- Target stand(s)
- Shot timer
- Standard holsters
- First aid kit
- Ammo: 25 / 50 / 30 rounds per shooter (Beg / Int / Adv)
Rifle (AR-15) — Zeroing & Confirmation
Setup: One target with a small aiming point (a 1"–2" dot or shape works well) at 25, 50, or 100 yards depending on tier. Bring a spotting scope or binoculars if your distance makes it hard to see hits with the naked eye.
Beginner
Fire 3-round groups at 25 yards, adjust sights/optic between groups as needed, no time limit. 3 rounds per group, 3 groups = 9 rounds.
Intermediate
Same process at 50 yards. 3 rounds per group, 3 groups = 9 rounds.
Advanced
Same process at 100 yards, and start a written log of your point-of-impact so you can track any shift over time. 3 rounds per group, 3 groups = 9 rounds.
Checklist
- Eye protection (one per shooter)
- Ear protection (one per shooter)
- 1 target with small aiming dot per shooter
- Target stand (rated for the distance used)
- Spotting scope or binoculars
- Small screwdriver or optic adjustment tool
- Notepad to log zero adjustments and point-of-impact
- First aid kit
- Ammo: 9 / 9 / 9 rounds per shooter (Beg / Int / Adv)
Shotgun — Patterning & Distance Confirmation
Setup: A patterning board or large paper target at 7, 15, or 25 yards depending on tier.
Beginner
Fire 3 rounds of buckshot at the patterning board at 7 yards, measure and record the spread. No time limit. 3 rounds.
Intermediate
Same test at 15 yards, compare the spread to the 7-yard results. 3 rounds.
Advanced
Same test at 25 yards, plus fire 2 slug rounds at 50 yards to confirm point of impact. 3 buckshot rounds + 2 slug rounds = 5 rounds.
Checklist
- Eye protection (one per shooter)
- Ear protection (one per shooter)
- 1 patterning board or large paper target per shooter
- Target stand rated for the distance used
- Tape marker/pen to mark and measure the pattern spread
- Measuring tape (for recording spread width)
- Notepad to log pattern results by distance
- First aid kit
- Buckshot ammo: 3 / 3 / 3 rounds per shooter (Beg / Int / Adv)
- Slug ammo: 0 / 0 / 2 rounds per shooter (Beg / Int / Adv)
Bonus — Precision Accuracy Check (Pistol, Rifle, or Shotgun)
Extends this month's accuracy work further out than the core drill goes.
Setup: Pistol: one target at 15–25 yards. Rifle: confirm zero holds at a distance beyond what's already been checked this cycle. Shotgun: a tighter, smaller target at pattern-testing range to see how precise the point of aim needs to be.
Beginner
Slow-fire only, no par time. 3–5 rounds, focus entirely on trigger control at the longer distance.
Intermediate
Same distance, add a light par time to introduce a small amount of pressure without sacrificing the group.
Advanced
Push the distance further still (pistol: 25 yards+; rifle: your range's max; shotgun: slug at max comfortable distance), par time optional.
Checklist
- Eye protection (one per shooter)
- Ear protection (one per shooter)
- 1 target (cardboard or rated AR500 steel, pistol/rifle only), appropriately sized for the distance
- Target stand rated for the distance
- Spotting scope or binoculars if distance makes hits hard to call
- First aid kit
- Ammo: 5–10 rounds per shooter
