November — Month 11

Pick pistol, rifle, shotgun, or all three — whatever fits the session.

Pistol — Positional Shooting

Setup: One target, plus a barricade or solid object to shoot from behind (a wood barrel, cardboard box, or similar).

Beginner

Shoot from a kneeling position. No par time, focus on stability and balance. 5 rounds per rep, 5 reps = 25 rounds.

Intermediate

Shoot from behind the barricade, exposing only enough of yourself to get the shot, from both the left and right side of the object. 5 rounds per rep, 5 reps = 25 rounds.

Advanced

Shoot from prone (lying down) and seated positions, switching between them mid-string, within a par time. 8 rounds per rep, 5 reps = 40 rounds.

Checklist

  • Eye protection (one per shooter)
  • Ear protection (one per shooter)
  • 1–2 targets (cardboard or rated AR500 steel)
  • Tape to mark center-mass/head boxes
  • Target stand(s)
  • Barricade or cover prop
  • Kneeling pad or mat (optional)
  • Ground tarp or mat for prone position (Advanced)
  • Shot timer
  • Standard holsters
  • First aid kit
  • Ammo: 25 / 25 / 40 rounds per shooter (Beg / Int / Adv)

Rifle (AR-15) — Distance Confirmation / Holdover

Setup: One target at 100, 200, or 300 yards depending on tier and range availability.

Beginner

Confirm hits at 100 yards with 3-round groups, no par time. 3 rounds per group, 3 groups = 9 rounds.

Intermediate

Confirm hits at 200 yards, note any holdover needed to stay on target. 3 rounds per group, 3 groups = 9 rounds.

Advanced

Confirm hits at 300 yards (or the range's maximum distance), applying holdover. 3 rounds per group, 3 groups = 9 rounds.

Checklist

  • Eye protection (one per shooter)
  • Ear protection (one per shooter)
  • 1 target per shooter, distance-appropriate
  • Target stand rated for the distance
  • Spotting scope or binoculars
  • Shot timer (optional — this month is accuracy-focused, not speed)
  • Sling
  • Notepad to log holdover/impact data
  • First aid kit
  • Ammo: 9 / 9 / 9 rounds per shooter (Beg / Int / Adv)

Shotgun — Slug Transition & Distance Shooting

Setup: One close target (buckshot range) and one far target (slug range) at 25, 50, or 75–100 yards depending on tier. Confirm your backstop is rated for slugs before running this month.

Beginner

Load and fire 2 slug rounds at 25 yards, no par time, confirm hits. 2 slug rounds.

Intermediate

Fire 2 buckshot rounds at a close target, transition-load 1 slug, engage a target at 50 yards, within a par time. 2 buckshot + 1 slug per rep, 5 reps = 10 buckshot + 5 slug rounds.

Advanced

Fire 2 buckshot rounds at a close target, transition-load 1 slug, engage a target at 75–100 yards, within a par time, with a step of movement. 2 buckshot + 1 slug per rep, 5 reps = 10 buckshot + 5 slug rounds.

Checklist

  • Eye protection (one per shooter)
  • Ear protection (one per shooter)
  • 1 close target and 1 distance target (buckshot stays on cardboard/paper; slug rounds may use rated AR500 steel at safe distance)
  • Tape to mark center-mass/head boxes on close target
  • Target stands rated for the distances used
  • Spotting scope or binoculars (for confirming distance hits)
  • Shot timer
  • Shell carrier loaded with a mix of buckshot and slugs
  • First aid kit
  • Buckshot ammo: 0 / 10 / 10 rounds per shooter (Beg / Int / Adv)
  • Slug ammo: 2 / 5 / 5 rounds per shooter (Beg / Int / Adv)

Bonus — Retention + Positional Combo (Pistol)

Combines this month's positional work with the close-quarters retention concept from earlier in the year.

Setup: One target, plus a barricade or solid object, at 3–7 yards. Cardboard or splat target only, no steel — part of this drill runs inside safe standoff distance.

Beginner

From a kneeling position, fire from retention (gun close to the body) rather than fully extended. No par time.

Intermediate

From behind the barricade, fire a retention-position shot around the edge of cover. Par time.

Advanced

Combine positions: retention shot, move to a new position, extended shot from cover. Par time.

Checklist

  • Eye protection (one per shooter)
  • Ear protection (one per shooter)
  • 1 cardboard or splat target (no steel — too close for safe standoff)
  • Barricade or cover prop
  • Shot timer
  • Standard holsters
  • First aid kit
  • Ammo: 10–15 rounds per shooter
