October — Month 10

Pick pistol, rifle, shotgun, or all three — whatever fits the session.

Pistol — Speed Thresholds

Setup: One target at 5–7 yards (beginner/intermediate) or a smaller steel plate at extended distance (advanced). This is the "Accelerator Drill" — round counts increase each string to find the fastest pace you can still hit reliably.

Beginner

Fire 1 round, reset, fire 2 rounds, reset, fire 3 rounds. No par time, just building rhythm. 6 rounds per rep, 5 reps = 30 rounds.

Intermediate

Continue the pattern all the way up: 1, then 2, then 3, then 4, then 5 rounds, each string under its own par time. 15 rounds per rep, 5 reps = 75 rounds.

Advanced

Same 1-through-5 pattern, but either at a longer distance or on a smaller plate, which forces you to slow down just enough to stay accurate at speed. 15 rounds per rep, 5 reps = 75 rounds.

Checklist

  • Eye protection (one per shooter)
  • Ear protection (one per shooter)
  • 1 target (Beg/Int), cardboard or rated AR500 steel
  • Tape to mark center-mass box on cardboard target (Beg/Int)
  • 1 reduced steel plate, 6"–8" (Advanced)
  • Target stand
  • Shot timer
  • Standard holsters
  • First aid kit
  • Ammo: 30 / 75 / 75 rounds per shooter (Beg / Int / Adv)

Rifle (AR-15) — Multiple Target Transitions

Setup: Multiple targets spaced a few feet apart at 15–25 yards.

Beginner

2 targets, fire 2 rounds at each, no par time. 4 rounds per rep, 5 reps = 20 rounds.

Intermediate

3 targets, 2 rounds each, within a par time. 6 rounds per rep, 5 reps = 30 rounds.

Advanced

4–5 target array, 1–2 rounds each, within a par time. 8 rounds per rep, 5 reps = 40 rounds.

Checklist

  • Eye protection (one per shooter)
  • Ear protection (one per shooter)
  • 4–5 cardboard targets (or rifle-rated steel array)
  • Tape to mark center-mass/head boxes
  • 4–5 target stands, spaced apart
  • Shot timer
  • Sling
  • First aid kit
  • Ammo: 20 / 30 / 40 rounds per shooter (Beg / Int / Adv)

Shotgun — Multiple Target Transitions

Setup: Multiple targets spaced a few feet apart at 7–15 yards.

Beginner

2 targets, fire 1 round at each, no par time. 2 rounds per rep, 5 reps = 10 rounds.

Intermediate

3 targets, 1 round each, within a par time. 3 rounds per rep, 5 reps = 15 rounds.

Advanced

4–5 target array, 1 round each, within a par time. 5 rounds per rep, 5 reps = 25 rounds.

Checklist

  • Eye protection (one per shooter)
  • Ear protection (one per shooter)
  • 4–5 cardboard targets
  • Tape to mark center-mass/head boxes
  • 4–5 target stands, spaced apart
  • Shot timer
  • First aid kit
  • Ammo: 10 / 15 / 25 rounds per shooter (Beg / Int / Adv)

Bonus — Extended-Distance Speed Drill (Pistol, Rifle, or Shotgun)

Takes this month's speed-threshold concept and pushes it out past the core drill's distance.

Setup: Same accelerating round-count pattern as this month's core drill, run at a distance one step beyond what that drill uses.

Beginner

Run the same 1-2-3 (or platform equivalent) pattern from the core drill, just at the longer distance, no par time.

Intermediate

Same pattern with par times, at the longer distance.

Advanced

Same pattern at the longer distance, on a reduced-size target if available, to really test the speed-accuracy limit.

Checklist

  • Eye protection (one per shooter)
  • Ear protection (one per shooter)
  • 1 target (cardboard or rated AR500 steel, pistol/rifle only) (reduced size for Advanced, if available)
  • Target stand
  • Shot timer
  • First aid kit
  • Ammo: same as this month's core drill for the platform used
